Patient Belongings Guidelines

For your safety and the safety of all the other patients, personal belongings are restricted as follows:


    • 3 sets of clothes: 1 top and 1 bottom per change of clothing

(The outfit you arrive in is considered one set of clothing)
– Shorts must be knee length
– Tops must have straps at least 2 inches wide. No exposed body parts.
– Tops must cover the mid section. (No cut-off or crop tops)

  • 1 jacket – No strings such as on a hoodie
  • 3 sets of undergarments
  • 1 pair of pajamas (must adhere to the shorts and top guidelines stated above)
  • 2 pair of shoes – No shoe strings allow, no heavy boots or steel-toe shoes
  • 3 pair of socks
  • No belts


  • Lone Star provides all necessary toiletry items. If you want to bring your own toiletries, they must be in a container of 4 oz. or less. If you have a medical reason for using a specific type of toiletry article that is not on the “normal list of toiletries”, a Doctor’s order for the item may be needed.


  • Makeup is allowed in minimal amounts.


  • No jewelry is allowed. No exceptions. Please do not bring any jewelry with you.

Personal Devices:

  • Glasses – may be worn
  • Hearing aid(s) – may be worn
  • Contact Lens – may be worn. Solution must be kept in nurses’ station.

Electronic Devices:

  • No electronic devices are allowed. This includes laptops, cell phone, charge, Kindle, iPod, iPads, hair dryer, etc…


  • Purses, wallets, keys, etc. will be locked in a secure place. Items may only be accessed upon patient discharge.


  • Personal medication may not be taken during your stay at Lone Star. Please bring a list of your medications and not the medication itself unless asked by the Lone Star staff / Pharmacist to do so. This includes vitamins, supplements and natural products.

Food and Drink

  • All patients are under the care of the Lone Star dietitian. No outside food or drink my be brought in.

Misc. Items

  • Book, Bible and journal are allowed. Please do not bring pens or pencils.

Bedding and Bath Towels

  • These items are provided by Lone Star. Additional items may not be brought from home.


  • Patients may bring their own or a limited number of generic brand cigarettes will be provided by Lone Star. Lone Star staff cannot purchase cigarettes for patients. Visitors may bring cigarettes but they cannot bring them for patients other than their own friend / family member. No lighters are allowed.
